Emilio Comici 1939
"Travelling companions" - a special exhibition of the Touriseum
01.06.-31.12.2023
Meet Emilio Comici, the "Angel of the Dolomites".
“Buongiorno, have you come up to Selva for the climbing? What is it that drives us humans to risk our lives high up on overhangs or in crevices? Who knows, maybe it’s madness, or maybe it’s the sadism that’s in us mountaineers. My whole life revolves around the mountains, and Selva is my heaven on earth. They call me the Angel of the Dolomites. I’m on my way to the town hall right now, but actually I don’t feel like spending the day in the office. What do you think about having a little chat as if we were climbing companions?”
Emilio Comici (1901-1940)
- Italian alpinist and caver from Trieste
- made more than 200 first ascents in the Dolomites
- was appointed head of the village of Selva in 1938
- died in 1940 after a rope broke while climbing the “Parei de Ciampac” wall in the Long Valley above Selva
