Otto Julius Bierbaum 1902
"Travelling companions" - a special exhibition of the Touriseum
01.06.-31.12.2023
Meet Otto Julius Bierbaum, who drove his automobile over the Brenner Pass in 1902.
“Good afternoon, are you waiting for the Brenner train? I’m travelling by car. You can stop wherever you want and arrange everything just as you like. When we drove up here today, I felt really sorry for the train passengers, all trapped in those sooty cages. I wondered how in this day and age a person can voluntarily squeeze himself inside one just to get ahead faster. I predict that we will one day look back at this phenomenon with incredulity! By the way, Bierbaum is my name, Otto Julius Bierbaum; a pleasure to meet you. I like to try my hand at the poetic art; I am also writing about this journey from Berlin to Sorrento as it affects one’s sensibility. And you? Would you care to talk with me a little more?”
